Newton, Adelaide  ·  by way of Katoomba and the Himalayas

Two roots. One little kitchen.

A Newton cafe where Bhutan and Eastern Europe share a stove. Momo and crepes, Emadashi and Medovik, and an espresso made like it matters.

Good food. Great ambiance.

01 Our two roots

From Katoomba to the Himalayas, by way of Newton.

Shamora grew out of Manki Coffee, the little roaster that got its start up in Katoomba. The recipes come from two homes, and we cook everything like we are feeding family.

Eastern Europe the European root

Hand folded crepes, slow grilled shashlik, pelmeni and the honey cake regulars warn their friends about. Comfort food with a Slavic accent.

Bhutan the Himalayan root

Steamed momo, a proper pot of Bhutanese tea and Emadashi, chilli and cheese cooked the way it is meant to be. Warm, fiery, a long way from home.

A slice of Medovik honey cake, dusted and finished with edible flowers

The Medovik is, and we are quoting the regulars here, to die for.

Layer on layer of soft honey sponge and cream. Ask for it before it sells out, which it does.

03 Who is out the back

The crew that keeps the pass moving.

Big Boss
Tashi

Runs the pass, signs the orders and guards the last slice of Medovik with his life.

01
Comrade, morale
Egor

Keeps the espresso honest and the room laughing. Mostly at the same time.

02
Chief taste tester
Sonam

If a plate leaves the kitchen, it got the nod from Sonam first. Quality control, Himalayan style.

03
The Shamora dining room at night, warm light and birdcage pendant lamps over set tables

Stay a while.

Warm light, a low hum, birdcage lamps and a coffee that is actually made with care. Come in for a quick flat white. Leave after the honey cake. That is just how it goes here.
